EC mocks with people by saying violation of electoral code of conduct

BNP senior joint secretary general Ruhul Kabir Rizvi has said the Election Commission (EC) itself has violated the constitution by announcing election schedule against people.

"Now, they (EC) is mocking with people by raising the allegations of violating electoral code of conduct of a unilateral election. What kind of electoral code of conduct it is? There is no participation of people here, voters don't have any interest about the election. It is going to be a unilateral election. All the candidates are belonged to a particular political party in one way or the other. Someone is a direct candidate of the party, or someone is indirect candidate. Someone is a No. 1 candidate, someone is No. 2 and someone is No. 3. All of them belong to Awami League," he said while addressing a virtual press conference in the capital on Sunday (December 3) afternoon.
Rizvi observed that the decision of transferring pro-Awami League UNOs and OCs on the occasion of election was nothing but a mere shifting. People have no interest about this unilateral election. CEC Kazi Habibul Awal has become very hectic with an election which is not being participated by more than 60 political parties of the country.

The BNP leader alleged that incidents of attack on the houses and business establishments of pro-democratic opposition including BNP are taking place constantly. In such a situation, not only the BNP families have become panic stricken, but also the common voters have become scared.

He said some 925 BNP leaders and workers were made accused in 10 cases and 230 of them arrested during the last 24 hours.

Rizvi said after announcement of election schedule on November 15 last, a total of 6,845 leaders and workers have so far been arrested in the country. A total of 236 cases were filed, in which, 27,100 leaders and workers were implicated. A total of seven leaders and workers were killed while over 917 injured.
