A foreign cargo ship has anchored at Mongla Port with Dhaka Metro Rail's equipment.
The ship, named 'MV Phoenix Coral' anchored at out-bar area of Mongla Port early Wednesday (December 6) afternoon. Then the ship will anchor at Jetty No. 8 of the Mongla Port after 7:30pm.
Earlier in the first week of November, Panama-flag carrying ship left Kobe Port of Japan for Mongla Port of Bangladesh.
Md Rafiqul Islam, representative of Ancient Steam Ship Company, the local shipping agent of MV Phoenix Coral, confirmed the matter. The ship is carrying 194.51 metric tonnes of weighing equipment and other equipment. Unloading of the equipment from the ship will begin at night. Then the ship will be sent to Dhaka.
It is learnt that the first consignment of Metro Rail arrived in Bangladesh on March 28 last year. Six railway carriages were brought in the first consignment. Importing, unloading, and transporting all the goods of Metro Rail, a mega project of the government, have been done through the Mongla Port. This time, the machinery equipment have been imported by the contracting company.
