Electioneering takes a festive mood in Ctg region

CHATTOGRAM, Dec 20: Electioneering has taken a festive mood in the greater Chattogram ahead of the 12th general election scheduled for January 7.

A total of 153 candidates of several political parties including the ruling Awami League are contesting in the 23 parliamentary seats of greater Chattogram.

Among 16 constituencies of Chattogram district, a total of 120 are contesting. A total of 24 candidates are contesting from 4 constituencies of Coxs Bazar district. In three constituencies of three Hill districts a total of 9 candidates are in the polls fray.

Most of the candidates have started election campaigns in their respective constituencies.

The supporters of the contestants have been distributing leaflets to the voters in their respective constituencies.

Besides, the candidates have been visiting door-to-door to woo the voters. They have been exchanging views with the voters on the upcoming election.

Deputy Education Minister Barrister Mohibul Hasan Chowdhury Naufel, AL nominated candidate has started visiting his constituency of Ctg-9 (Kotwali-Bakalia).

During his poll campaign at various places of Kotwali and Bakalia, he vowed to dedicate himself for more development of the areas under his constituency.

Former CCC Mayor Manjur Alam who is contesting from Ctg-10 (Double Mooring-Pahartali) constituency promised local residents to remove all types of hurdles in smooth functioning of the utility services.

He claimed that he had been contesting to improve the lots of the common people. In this constituency AL nominated Mohiuddin Bacchu also started his campaign.

In Ctg-11 (Port-Patenga) AL candidate MA Latif urged the people to vote for him again as they had voted him to become a lawmaker earlier in order to serve the people. He also has been elected MP from this constituency for two previous terms.

Solaiman Alam Sheth of Jatiya Party contesting from Ctg-8 (Boalkhali-Chandgaon) constituency began his campaign in Chandgaon area on Wednesday. Awami League left this seat to Jatiya Party.

But Abdus Salam Treasurer of the city unit and former Chairman of Chattogram Development Authority (CDA) who is contesting in this constituency as an Independent candidate started moving from door-to-door of the people to woo the voters.
