NAGESHWARI, KURIGRAM, Dec 30: A total of 36 freedom fighter (FF) families have got Bir Bibas living houses in Nageshwari Upazila of the district.
Forty-nine more houses have already been approved. These are being built.
Under the Residence Construction project for FFs, Bir Nibas houses are being constructed in 484 upazilas of the country.
These houses are provided through the Liberation War Affairs Ministry while Local Government Engineering Department (LGED) is supervising the implementation. The project work started in 2012.
Each one-storey Bir Nibas has been constructed at Tk 14.10 lakh. It includes two living rooms, one drawing, dining and cooking room, a wide veranda, and two wash rooms. Besides, there are one tube-well and separate shade for farming hen and duck.
After getting keys of Bir Nibas, recipient FFs and their families became delighted.
FF Abdur Rahman of Ballabpur Bakshi Khamar area in Nageshwari Municipality said, "I have been old. I am not feeling well. I am not capable to work. I could give nothing to my children. My sons and their families are living on wage works. I was living in a broken room. This new house is a dream to me. I wish good health and long life for Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina."
He was echoed by other FFs like Moyen Uddin of Santospur Azmata, FF Achhimuddin of Dhoni Pagla, FF Abdur Rahman of Santospur Uttamkhana, and FF Abul Kashem of Char Bishnupur at Ballabherkhash Union.
Nageshwari Upazila Project Implementation Officer Mofakharul Islam confirmed handing of keys of Bir Nibas to the FFs.
The remaining 49 ones are under-construction, and these will be handed over to the FF families soon, the official added.
