Awami League President and Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina on Monday urged people to give a befitting reply to the arson violence of BNP and Jamaat by casting their votes in the January 7 general election.

"Do not only cast your vote but also protect your voting rights. Give a befitting reply to arsonist, militant and terrorist BNP and Jamaat," the AL chief said while addressing an election rally organized jointly by Awami Leagues Dhaka City North and South units at Kalabagan Krirachakro Field in Dhanmondi.

Dhaka North City AL President Sheikh Bazlur Rahman presided over the rally while Dhaka South City AL General Secretary Humayun Kabir moderated it.

Among others, AL General Secretary Obaidul Quader, Presidium Member Jahangir Kabir Nanak (also Dhaka-13 AL candidate), Joint General Secretary AFM Bahauddin Nasim (also Dhaka-8 candidate), Dhaka South City Mayor Fazle Noor Taposh, and Dhaka-10 candidate actor Ferdous Ahmed spoke at the rally.

Later, Sheikh Hasina witnessed a cultural program by the Bangladesh Shilpakala Academy. Leaders from ALs central and Dhaka units and associates attended.

Sheikh Hasina asked party members and the Bangladeshi public to stay vigilant against arsonists BNP and Jamaat as they want to destroy the country.

"BNP and Jamaat want to snatch your votes in the election through arson," she said.

She urged voters to go to polling stations morning on January 7 and cast their votes so none can steal their rights.

The AL president called on young and new voters to vote Boat to continue development. She said Bangladesh has seen huge socioeconomic change since AL took power in 2008.

"If AL is reelected, it will help make Bangladesh a developed, prosperous, Smart nation by 2041," she added.

She claimed BNP boycotted as they cannot rig votes. "To appropriately answer, every voter should go to polling centers morning and vote," the AL chief said.

Referring to BNP-Jamaat arson, Sheikh Hasina said they tried and failed to foil the 2014 election through violence. "Now they want to thwart the January 7 election through deadly arson and subversion," she said.

She said her party established voting rights that BNP and Jamaat lack courage to steal and foil the polls.

As Sheikh Hasina arrived, huge crowds roared welcome, greeting her waving the national flag.

Introducing Dhakas 15 AL candidates, she sought votes for the Boat symbol of development, peace and prosperity.

"I hand over 15 jewels who will serve you and Dhaka. The Boat earned independence and saved mankind as Nuhs ark," she said.
