According to sources at the Upazila Agriculture office, this season, about 4,000 hectares (ha) of land were targeted for the winter vegetables at Dumuria. Growers were given good quality seeds, fertilizer and tools.

In order to ensure quality, organic insecticide is applied in fields. The cultivation is done using mulching and bed systems.
A recent visit to different areas and bazaars in 14 unions of the upazila found growers passing busy time. In fields they were seen weeding and spraying. In bazaars others were seen marketing their new vegetables.

A grower Sureshwar said, he has cultivated winter vegetables on about 60 decimals of land. His vegetables included tomato, bottle gourd, red spinach, and radish.

His total cost including land preparing, sapling plantation, and fencing stood at about Tk 20,000. He has already started to sell bottle gourd, radish and red spinach. So far, he has sold vegetables of Tk 15,000. His target is to get a total sale of Tk 1 lakh. In the last year, he got a profit of Tk  70,000.
