3 suspected cattle thieves killed in Pabna lynch-mob attack

Three suspected cattle thieves were killed in a lynch-mob attack in Pabna's Bhangura upazila early Saturday.

The incident took place at Betuan village under the upazila around 2am.

The deceased could not be identified immediately.

Another one was also injured in the incident.

According to eye witnesses and police, a gang of cattle lifters stole two cows from one Golap Hossain's house at Ashtamanisha village of the upazila and tried to escape by a boat. Sensing the matter, local people including the owner of the cow chased the gang. But failed to catch them. Then they spread the news to people of the nearby areas and relatives. When the people of Betuan village saw them, the cattle lifters attacked the villagers with lethal weapons and tried to escape, leaving the cows. The locals, later, managed to catch three of them and beat up them mercilessly. The trio died on the spot. But one managed to escape.

Some villagers were injured in the attack.

Bhangura Police Station officer in-charge Nazmul Hossain said police recovered the bodies. Preparations are underway to send the bodies to the morgue for autopsy.
