Former UP member killed in Dinajpur road crash

A former union parishd member was killed after being crushed under the wheels of a truck on the Gobindaganj-Dinajpur regional highway at Ghoraghat upazila in Dinajpur district on Tuesday afternoon.

The deceased was identified as Bajlur Rashid, 55, a resident of Begun Bari Khalsi village and a former member of Bulakipur Union Parishad.
According to locals, a goods-laden truck was heading towards Gobindaganj. On the way, a cow went in the middle of the highway. At that time, the truck ran over Bajlur when he attempted to save the cattle, leaving him dead on the spot.

Ghoraghat Police Station officer-in-charge Asaduzzaman Asad said locals apprehended the truck soon after the accident and handed over to the police.

However, the truck driver managed to flee the scene and legal action is underway in this regard, added the OC.
