LAXMIPUR, Jan 15: A drug addict young man reportedly hacked his mother to death for refusing to give him money to buy drugs in Sadar Upazila of the district on Sunday night.
The incident took place in Gangapur Village under South Hamsadi Union of the upazila at around 7:30 pm.
The deceased was Kiron Begum, wife of Abul Khayer, a resident of the village.
According to locals, the deceaseds son Kawser, 29, used to take drugs for a long time.
On Sunday evening, Kawser demanded some money from his mother. When she denied giving him money to buy drugs, Kawser got angry and hacked his mother with a sharp weapon, leaving her dead on the spot.
Locals apprehended the accused and handed him over to the police.
Being informed, police recovered the body and sent it to Laxmipur Sadar Hospital morgue for an autopsy.
Officer-in-Charge of Laxmipur Sadar Model Police Station Saifuddin Anwar confirmed the incident, adding that legal action would be taken in this regard.
