Cold-hit people get blankets in seven dists

Blankets were distributed among the cold-hit people in seven districts- Kishoreganj, Nilphamari, Feni, Pirojpur, Rajshahi, Gaibandha and Kurigram, in four days.

KISHOREGANJ: The cold-hit destitute people were given more than 500 blankets in the district on Saturday.

Prime Ministers Special Assistant Agriculturists Moshiur Rahman Humayun distributed those blankets among the cold-hit helpless people at a programme held at Shaheed Syed Nazrul Islam Chattar in the district town.
 
District Awami League (AL) Religious Affairs Secretary AKM Shamsul Islam Khan Masum, its Member Hasan Momin Uzzal, District Mohila AL General Secretary (GS) Bilkis Begum, Bangladesh Chhatra League (BCL) District Unit GS Foyez Oman Khan, and Sadar Upazila BCL GS Ariful Islam, among others, were also present during the distribution.

JALDHAKA, NILPHAMARI: Blankets were provided to more than 200 poor madrasa students in Jaldhaka Upazila of the district on Saturday.

These blankets were distributed the cold-hit students of Afzalul Ulum Bahumukhi Fazil Madrasa on its campus at Borovita in the upazila.

Principal of the madrasa Ohidul Islam handed over the blankets to the students as the chief guest.

The teachers and the students of the madrasa were also present at that time.

FENI: Blankets were distributed among over 100 cold-hit people in the district on Friday night.

Lions Club of Feni Muhuri, Feni Orchid, Feni Central and Feni City jointly organized the distribution programme at Feni Lions Club Office at Dakter Para in the district town.

Freedom Fighter Abu Taher was present there as the chief guest.

Lion District 315 B 2 Region Chairperson Lion Omar Faruq Bhuiyan Belal, Editor of Fenir Somoy Shahadat Hossain and Journalist Asaduzzaman attended the programme as special guests.

Feni Muhuri Lions Club President Lion Omar Faruq Majumder, Feni City Lions Club President Lion Dwin Mohammad, former president of Feni Press Club Muhammad Abu Taher Bhuiyan, Lion Advocate Partha Pal Chowdhury, Lion Nurul Islam Majumder Sohag, and Lion Morshed Hossain, among others, were also present during the distribution.  

PIROJPUR: District administration distributed blankets among cold-hit people in the district on Thursday night.

Led by Additional Deputy Commissioner (Revenue) Md Aminiul Islam blankets were distributed among floating poor people at bus stands, business spots, and densely populated areas in the town.

The blanket distribution was made with the presence of magistrates, police and journalists.

More than 30,150 blankets were distributed,. These warm clothes were taken from Prime Ministers Office and Ministry of Relief and Disaster Management.

BAGHA, RAJSHAHI: About 250 cold-hit and destitute people of Bagha Upazila in the district were given blankets on Thursday.

Mohila Juba League leader Sharifa Khatun distributed those blankets among the needy people in Chandipur Chaoyghoti Village of the upazila.

Former State Minister for Foreign Affairs Shahriar Alam provided assistance to the initiative.

GAIBANDHA: The district unit of Bangladesh Red Crescent Society (BDRCS) intensified blanket distribution activity to the cold-hit people of Sundarganj Upazila in the district and its neighbouring Razibpur Upazila of Kurigram District.

BDRCS Office sources said with the increasing intensity of cold wave sweeping over the districts, the sufferings of the poor and the distressed people also enhanced. Of them, the condition of char people is pitiable and miserable.

Taking the matter in view, BDRCS took an initiative to distribute blankets among the cold-affected people aimed at mitigating the sufferings caused by on-going cold wave.

Accordingly, a total of 1,500 blankets were distributed among the cold victims of the upazilas on Wednesday from morning to afternoon under Re-enforcing Rural Resilience Programme being implemented by BDRCS, unit office with the financial support of Swiss Red Cross.  

A total of 600 blankets were distributed among the cold-hit people of Mohonganj, Kodalkati and Razibpur Sadar unions of Razibpur Upazila under Kurigram District, and the rest 900 blankets were given to the cold victims of Kapasia, Chandipur, Horipur, Belka and Tarapur unions of Sundarganj Upazila in Gaibandha on Wednesday.

Razibpur Upazila Parishad Chairman Akbar Hossain Hero and Upazila Nirbahi Officer Tanvir Ahamed formally inaugurated the blank distribution activity to the poor and distressed people as the chief and the special guest.

In Sundarganj Upazila, the respective union parishad chairmen distributed the blankets to the beneficiaries as the chief guests on behalf of the unit office, said Amal Kumar Promanik, project manager.

After getting warm clothes from the BDRCS, many of the helpless and distressed people burst into tears and expressed their gratefulness to the unit office for standing beside them with warm clothes during the current winter season.

Earlier, as many as 500 blankets were also distributed among the cold-hit people of Gaibandha Municipality and its surrounding areas at the arrangement of the unit office.

Field level staffs of the project and its officials and the representatives of SRC and BDRCS, NGO Resilience Platform, Village Disaster Management Committee and community resilience volunteers, local elites, invited persons were present during the distribution.
