An elderly man was killed and another injured in a road crash between a four wheeler (chander gari) and a CNG-run autorickhsaw at Hathazari upazila in
Chattogram district on Tuesday afternoon.
The
accident happened on the Hathazari-Nazirahat highway at Moniapukurpar area in the upazila.
The deceased was identified as Deepak Mitra, 60, a resident of Bhakta Fakirer Bari area under Kachuai union of Patiya upazila.
Quoting locals, police said the accident occurred when an open roof genre of jeep, locally known as chander gari, collided head-on with the Fatikchari-bound autorickshaw in the area, leaving three people critically injured.
Locals rescued the injured and took to Hathazari upazila health complex where the on-duty doctor declared Deepak as dead.
Dr Sufia Khanom, on-duty doctor of the upazila health complex, confirmed the death matter adding that, the injured-- Abul Monsur Chowdhury, 67, and the autorickshaw driver Abdur Rahman, 43, were referred to Chattogram Medical College Hospital fot better treatment.
On information, a team of police from Nazirhat Highway Police Station seized the both vehicles from the spot, reports our local correspondent.
