A Dhaka court on Monday framed charges against Sabrina Sharmin, Chairperson of JKG Health Care, in a fraud case filed by the Election Commission (EC) on allegations of having two separate National Identity Cards (NIDs) in her name.
After framing charges, Metropolitan Magistrate Mahbub Ahmed fixed June 13 for beginning of the trial in the case.
However, the court rejected her plea for exemption and passed the charge framing order.
On August 30 in 2020, EC official Momin Mia of Gulshan Zone filed the case against Sabrina with Badda Police Station.
Sub-Inspector Ripon Uddin of the Detective Branch (DB) of police submitted a charge sheet against the physician on November 24 last year.
According to the case statement, Sabrina possesses two active NID cards. She became a second-time voter during the 2016 voter roll update. Her date of birth and husbands name are found to be different on the two cards.
The Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) sought information from the Election Commission to know the details.
On 19 July 2022, Dhaka Additional Metropolitan Magistrate Tofazzal Hossain sentenced six people, including Sabrina and her husband Ariful Haque Chowdhury, to 11 years of rigorous imprisonment in the case of issuing fake Covid-19 certificates.
