Six dead, several maimed in road accidents

At least six people were killed and several others were injured in separate road accidents Munshiganj, Khagrachhari and Sherpur on Wednesday.

Our Munshiganj Correspondent added two persons, including a man and his daughter, were killed after a bus hit their motorcycle on Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman Expressway in Sreenagar of Munshiganj on Wednesday afternoon.
The deceased were Kamal Hossain, 30, son of Abdul Hakim of Ramjankathi area of Barishal, and his daughter Mahira Mahi, 10.

Sreenagar Hashara police outpost In-charge Kanchan Kumar Singha said the accident took place adjacent to the Hashara Bridge area at around 2:00pm when an unidentified bus hit the bike and it lost control and overturned, leaving the father and his daughter dead on the spot.

He said the bodies are now under police custody and police are trying to seize the bus.

Our Khagrachhari Correspondent reports two persons were killed and 15 others injured after a tourist bus and a pickup van collided at Matiranga in Khagrachhari on Wednesday.

The deceased were Preeti Bala Guha, 45, wife of late Nani Gopal Guha and Anima Ghosh, 65, wife of late Gaurang Ghosh, residents of Bashundhara area of Khagrachhari district.

Quoting the locals, Khagrachhari Superintendent of Police Mukta Dhar said the accident took place around 9:30am in Sapmara area of Matiranga when a Guimaras-bound pickup van carrying passengers from Khagrachhari  and a tourist bus coming from the opposite direction collided head on, leaving two women in the pickup van died on the spot and left 15 people injured. He said that police seized the bus.

Dr Shahiduzzaman of Khagrachhari Sadar Hospital said among the injured condition of 5 people is critical.

Our Sherpur Correspondent writes two people were killed and 10 others injured when a speeding bus and a three-wheeler collided head on in Sreebardi upazila of Sherpur district early Wednesday.

The deceased were helper of three-wheeler Hamidullah, 26, son of late Mofiz Uddin of Boro Poragor village under the Sreebardi upazila, and bus passenger Golam Faruk, 50, son of Abdul Barek of nearby Jamalpurs Bakshiganj upazila.

Sreebardi Police Station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Kaium Khan Siddique said a bus of Ma Moni Paribahan crashed into the three-wheeler coming from the opposite direction on Bhayadanga-Kurua road around 5:00am.

The three-wheeler plunged into a roadside ditch and the bus ploughed through a nearby house, the OC said.

In the accident the helper of the bus died on the spot and 11 others were injured. Later, the injured were taken to Sherpur Sadar hospital where Faruk succumbed to his injuries and the rest were undergoing treatment, he said.
 Police said that the bus was seized but its driver managed to flee.
