Court asks police to quiz two doctors at jail gate

A  Dhaka court on Wednesday asked police to interrogate Dr. SM Muqtadir and Dr Mahbub Mahbub, arrested earlier, of JS Diagnostic and Medical Checkup Center in Malibagh in a case filed over negligence duty.

Metropolitan Magistrate Rajesh Chawdhury passed the order after hearing on remand plea.

Police arrested the two doctors of the hospital, JS Hospital and Medical Checkup Centre (JSHMCC), after a case was filed by the childs father.

Sub Inspector Ruhul Amin of Hatirjheel Police Station, also Investigation Officer (IO) of the case produced the accused doctors before the court with a prayer to grant a seven-day remand each for interrogation.

 In this regard the Ahnaf Tahmins father Fakhrul Alam filed a case with Hatirjheel Police Station on Wednesday.

The Directorate General of Health Services on Wednesday declared the JS Hospital and Medical Checkup Centre (JSHMCC) closed.

Awlad Hussain, officer-in-charge of Hatirjheel Police Station, said that they arrested the two doctors, SM Muktadir and Mahbub, after Ahnafs father Fakhrul Alam filed a case mentioning the names of three doctors and five other unnamed persons.

Quoting the parents of the boy, police and relatives said doctors took the boy to the operation theatre around 8:00pm on Tuesday. He never regained consciousness after he was given general anesthesia. An hour later, the hospital authorities declared him dead.

The family members claimed they requested the doctors not to give him full anaesthesia, and conduct the procedure with local anesthesia. But they refused to do so.

The Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS) has sealed the JS Diagnostic and Medical Checkup Center in Malibagh of the capital following the death.

Director (Hospitals and Clinics) Abu Hossain Md Moinul Ahsan confirmed the matter to the reporters after visiting the JS Diagnostic and Medical Checkup Center on Wednesday.

Doctors reportedly administered excessive anesthesia on Ayaan for the procedure without his parents consent.
