Govt hikes sugar price to Tk 160 per kg, highest in country's history

The maximum retail price of sugar produced at government mills has been hiked to Tk 160 per kg by Bangladesh Sugar and Food Industries Corporation (BSFIC) raising by Tk 20 ahead of the month of Ramadan.

The price is the highest in the country's history. The BSFIC said it in a press release on Thursday. The new price will be effective immediately.
It is said that the selling price of sugar at the mill gate is Tk 150 per kg and at dealer level is Tk 157 per kg.

Besides, the maximum selling price at various super shops, at the basement at Sugar Industries Bhaban, and and markets has been fixed at Tk 160 per kg.

The press release also said that the price of sugar has been fixed in coordination with the international market. It also sought the government's cooperation in controlling the sugar market on the occasion of Ramadan.

Earlier, the BSFIC fixed the price of sugar at Tk 140 per kg.
