ICC T20 World Cup 2024 is scheduled to take place between June 1 and 29 in the West Indies and USA. Bangladesh is set to play a three-match T20i series against hosts USA before the World Cup as part of their preparation, confirmed BCBs Cricket Operations Chairman Jalal Yunus on Thursday.

Regarding Bangladeshs preparation for the upcoming World Cup, Yunus stated, "Ahead of the next T20 World Cup, well play five T20i matches against Zimbabwe. BPL is ongoing. Additionally, we have plans to engage in a three-match T20i series in the USA against the hosts, which is a crucial part of our practice and preparation."

The Tigers are placed in Group-D of the 20-nation event. They will face Sri Lanka, South Africa, Netherlands and Nepal. The first two matches will be played in the USA on June 7 and 10, while the subsequent two matches are scheduled in the West Indies on June 13 and 16. While Bangladesh has ample experience playing in the West Indies, they have relatively less exposure to playing in the USA. Therefore, organising this series will provide them with invaluable playing experience and help them adjust to the conditions.

BCB recently announced the Bangladesh squad for three T20i matches and two ODIs against Sri Lanka with Shakib Al Hasan notably absent. The all-rounder has been grappling with optical issues and was expected to make a comeback during the remainder of the home series against Sri Lanka. However, Yunus also disclosed that Shakib will continue to remain out of action throughout the series across all formats.

Yunus mentioned, "Shakib had been in form, but he has been struggling due to some problems with his eyes. It is a temporary setback and hopefully, hell make a comeback soon. He has taken a break from the entire series against Sri Lanka."

Furthermore, Yunus informed that the BCB has finalised the names of the coaching staff, which will be announced in the next day or two.
