8 killed in road accidents in 5 dists

At least eight people were killed and dozen others injured in separate road accidents in Narsingdi, Pabna, Gazipur, Gaibandha, Brahmanbaria on Thursday.

Our Narsingdi Correspondent added that two people were killed and two others injured after a microbus collided with a stone-laden truck on the Dhaka-Sylhet highway in Shibpur upazila of Narsingdi on Thursday morning.
The deceased were identified as Shah Alam, 50, of Natai village of Sadar upazila of Brahmanbaria, and his brother-in-law, Selim Mia, of the same upazila. Arifur Rahman, sub-inspector of Itakhola Highway Police Station, confirmed the matter.

In another incident a college student was killed after a covered van ran him over at Monohardi upazila in Narsingdi district on Thursday.

The accident took place around 10:00 am on the Dhaka-Kishoreganj highway near Monohardi Bustand cattle market.

Deceased Shohagh Miah, 18, was son of Ahid Uddin, a resident of Panchkandi village in the upazila. He was a student at class XII in Narsingdi Presidency College.

Our Brahmanbaria Correspondent added that two people were killed and another was injured when a tractor loaded with sand fell into a ditch in Brahmanbarias Nabinagar upazila on Thursday.

The accident took place early in the morning in Narui Barahit area under Kaitla Union of Upazila on the Nabinagar-Radhika Road.

The deceased were Amir Hossain, 14, son of Bajlu Mia, a resident of Brahmanhata village under Kaitla (North) union of Nabinagar upazila, and Anamul, 26, of Akhaura upazila of district.

Our Pabna Correspondent added that a CNG-run auto-rickshaw driver Sharif, 40, of Aotapara village of the upazila, died and five were injured when the Aotapara-bound auto-rickshaw collided with a private car coming from the opposite direction in Ishurdi upazila of Pabna early Thursday.

The injured were admitted to the Upazila Health Complex, and one of them was sent to Rajshahi Medical College Hospital as his condition was critical, said the police sources said.

Our Gaibandha Correspondent added that a youth died after two motorcycles collided head-on in Polashbari area of Gaibandha on Thursday. The deceased Swadesh Chandra, 23, son of Late Sudev Chandra-Tapati Rani, the family hails from Durgapur village of Mahdipur union of Swadesh upazila Quoting family members, Officer-in-Charge of Palashbari Police Station (OC) Arju Md Sajjad Hossain said on Wednesday, Swadesh was returning home on a bike from Polashbari union while another bike coming from opposite direction collided in Bogura bus stand area. He was taken to the Rangpur Medical College and Hospital and later shifted to Rangpur Doctors clinic, where he succumbed to injuries at 4 am, he added.

Our Gazipur Correspondent added that at least ten people, including seven SSC examinees, were injured when a picnic bus hit two auto-rickshaws at Kaliakoir of Gazipur on Thursday.

The SSC examinees were going to the exam centres on the auto-rickshaws. Among the injured, six SSC examinees were released from a local hospital after giving primary treatment.
