A 45-year-old man was stabbed to death reportedly over a land dispute at Dakshin Surma upazila in Sylhet district on Thursday night.

The deceased was identified as Abdul Qaiyum, son of Abdul Majeed and a resident of Rustampur area in the upazila.
The incident took place around 10:30 pm in the area under Moglabazar Police Station.

Quoting locals, Moglabazar Police Station officer-in-charge (Investigation) Harun Or Rashid said Qaiyum had a loggerhead with his rivals over a piece of a land. The crime might have occurred following the land dispute.

Several injury marks were found in different parts of the body of Qaiyum, he said.

Efforts are underway to identify those involved in the killing, said the OC.

Later, the body was recovered and sent to Sylhet MAG Osmani Medical College Hospital morgue for an autopsy, added the OC.
