4 killed, several injured in road accidents

At least four people were killed and several others injured in separate road accidents in Dhaka, Lakshmipur and Dinajpur on Sunday.

In Dhaka, at least three persons, including two women, died in three separate road accidents on Sunday.  One of them was identified as day labourer Al Amin, 29,  but police could not identify, so far, two other victims who are women.
The three separate incidents took place  in front of Mirpur Sony Cinema, in front of Gulistan underground Market under Paltan Police Station and in front of Kasaibari Railgate of citys Dakshin Khan area in the morning.

Police and family sources said day labour Al-Amin was critically injured when a speedy bus hit him while he was crossing the Mirpur Zoo Road, in front of Sony Cinema at 8:30am.

Later,  he was shifted to Dhaka Medical College Hospital (DMCH) and the duty doctor declared him dead.  An unidentified 58-year old woman was critically injured as a speedy bus of Asian Paribahan hit her when she was crossing the road in front of Gulistan underground Market around 9:30am.

Local people rescued and sent her to DMCH but the duty doctor declared her dead.

Meanwhile, a battery-run auto-rickshaw hit a 40-year old unidentified woman  at citys Dakskhin Khan Kasaibari area at around 7:30am on Sunday.  She was taken to DMCH in a critical state and the duty doctor declared her dead.

"The bodies of the women were kept in the hospital morgue," said DMCHs police camp In-charge M Bacchu Mia.

Our Lakshmipur Correspondent reports a man died and two others were severely injured in a collision between a truck and a pickup van on Sunday morning in Lakshmipur.

The dead was Abdur Rahim, 25, helper of the truck, a resident of Durgapur village under Lakshmipur Sadar upazila. The pickup van driver, Rubel, and another man named Sagar were seriously injured in the accident.

According to locals, a sand-laden truck was going towards Mandari area from Moju Chowdhury Haat. When it reached in front of the Department of Youth Development, a pick-up van from the opposite direction collided with the truck. The truck helper Rahim died on the spot.

Locals rescued the injured and rushed them to Lakshmipur Sadar Hospital. Lakshmipur Sadar Police Station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Saifuddin Anwar confirmed it.

Our Dinajpur Correspondent writes a motorcycle rider was dead and the pillion passenger injured after being hit by a covered van in Phulbari upazila of Dinajpur on Sunday morning.

The deceased was identified as Jakir Hossain, 52, a construction worker and son of late Foyez Uddin of South Sabajpur in Birampur, and the injured was Rony.  

Rezaul Karim, Sub-Inspector of Phulbari Police Station said a covered van hit the motorcycle, leaving Jakir dead and Rony injured. Later, the injured was admitted to a local medical centre, he added. The covered van has been seized, but the driver fled, said the SI.
