A Bangladeshi cargo ship with 23 sailors on board has been hijacked by Somali pirates in the Indian Ocean.
The incident took place near Somalia early Tuesday afternoon.
The ship is owned by KSRM Group's 'SR Shipping'. The group came to know that the ship was hijacked by pirates at 1:00pm.
Confirming the matter, KSRM Group's chief executive officer Meherul Karim told reporters that the bulk cargo ship 'MV Abdullah' was hijacked when it was heading towards the United Arab Emirates (UAE) with coal from the African country of Mozambique.
The ship had 23 Bangladeshi sailors on board. All of them have been taken hostage, according to the ship's owners.
A message was sent from the ship around 1:30pm, according to sources.
Built in 2016, MV Abdullah has a length overall of 185.74 metres and a width of 30.4 metres.
