AL leader found dead in Barishal mastered field

Police recovered the body of a local Awami League (AL) from a mastered field at Hijla upazila in Barishal district on Saturday afternoon.

The deceased was Jamal Majhi, a vice president of Dhulkhol union's 7 no ward AL unit, confirmed the incumbent member of parliament (MP) for Barishal-4 Pankaj Debnath.
Akhi Begum, the deceased wife, said she called Jamal around 2am on Saturday as he didn't returned home till late night. At that time, he (Jamal) said he was fine and will return home soon. Later in the morning, she was informed that Jamal was hacked to death by some miscreants.

MP Pankaj Debnath said that there had been a loggerheads between Jamal and the Union Parishad chairman Jamal Uddin Dali, who used to work for MP Dr Shammi Ahmed, over campaigning in the last national election. Following this, the UP chairman has brought out several attacks on the victim and his family members.

"As sequel to it, the supporters of Dr Shammi Ahmed might have killed Jamal Majhi," he said.

Hijla Police Station officer-in-charge Jubair said being informed, police recovered the body from the spot and sent to a hospital morgue for autopsy.

The body bore several stab wounds and legal actions will be taken upon investigation, added the OC.
