Elephant kills farmer in Coxs Bazar

COXS BAZAR, Mar 28: A farmer was killed and another injured after being attacked by a wild elephant while working in a paddy field in Chakaria Upazila of the district on Tuesday.
The incident took place in Chitarbil area under Harbang Union of the upazila at around 2 pm.
The deceased was identified as Belal Uddin, 55, a resident of Bhandir Deba area under Harbang Union.
The injured person is Kamal Hossain, 45, a resident of the same area.
According to locals, Belal Uddin was working in his paddy field near a hill at noon. Suddenly, a wild elephant came out and grabbed Belal Uddin with its trunk and crushed him under feet. He died on the spot.
At the same time, another farmer Kamal Hossain was also injured by the elephant. Later on, local people rescued him and admitted to Chakaria Upazila Health Complex.
Harbang Union Parishad Chairman Mehraj Uddin confirmed the incident.
