Four to die, three get life term in murder cases

Separate courts in three days sentenced four people to death and three others to life-term imprisonment in two different murder cases in two districts - Faridpur and Narayanganj.
FARIDPUR: A court in the district on Wednesday sentenced three people to death and three others to life-term imprisonment in a case filed over the murder of a student in Nagarkanda Upazila in 2018.
Faridpur District Women and Children Repression Prevention Tribunal Judge Md Hafizur Rahman handed down the verdict in presence of five convicts.
The death-row convicts are: Mahabub Alam, Kamal Matubbar and Khokon Matubbar.
The convicts who got life-term imprisonment are: Ashraf Sheikh, Azizul Sheikh and Suzon Matubbar.
Among the convicts, all of them were present during the prosecution except Azizul.
According to the prosecution, on June 7, 2018, Alauddin alias Antar, a student of class eight and a resident of Char Manikdi area under Talma Union in Nagarkanda Upazila, was kidnapped and strangled to death.
Later on, the convicts dumped the body.
A murder case was filed with Nagarkanda Police Station (PS) in this regard.
After investigation, police submitted the charge-sheet to the court, and following this, the court pronounced the verdict on Wednesday after examining the case records and taking depositions of the witnesses.
NARAYANGANJ: A court in the district on Monday sentenced a man to death for killing a schoolboy in Sonargaon Upazila in 2022.
Narayanganj Additional District and Sessions Court Judge Aminul Haque handed down the verdict in the afternoon.
The condemned convict is Apurba Chandra Das, 21, a resident of Bagmahisha Rishipara Village under Sonargaon Municipality.
However, three other accused in this case were acquitted as the charges brought against them were not proved.
The Court Police Inspector Asaduzzaman confirmed the matter.
He said the body of a schoolboy, named Faisal Ahmed, 17, was recovered on February 4, 2022 after eight days of his missing.
A murder case was filed with Sonargaon PS in this regard.
Later on, Apurba Chandra Das, who was arrested in the case, confessed that he had killed Faisal Ahmed on the night of 26 January, 2022 and had buried Faisals body under the mud in a canal.
Police then submitted the charge-sheet to the court, and following this, the court pronounced the verdict on Monday.
