Urging Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina to burn her Indian sarees, BNP senior joint secretary general Advocate Ruhul Kabir Rizvi said, "If you're really a leader of Bangladesh, love the country and promote the country's mills and factories, you first burn your India made sarees."
He made the remarks while speaking as the chief guest at an iftar mahfil at the BNP central office at Nayapaltan in the capital on Tuesday (April 2).
Jatiyatabadi Prochar Dal central committee organised the iftar and doa mahfil seeking the blessing of the departed soul of the party founder Ziaur Rahman and early recovery of ailing BNP Chairperson Khaleda Zia.
Terming Bangladesh as a "police state, and surrounded by police," Rizvi said there are mass media in Bangladesh as well as one-party BKSAL in a different way. This government has forcibly shut down the Daily Amar Desh, Diganta TV, Islamic TV and Dinkal. It is working as BKSAL to muzzle the news media. Though there are many media, nobody can tell the truth. If you write or say about Sheikh Hasina's looting, you will either be missing or go to jail for lifetime."
The BNP leader said if you look at the capital market, you will find all the looters are closed to Sheikh Hasina. These are being patronised by the state from the central level.
With BNP's Self-Reliant Affairs secretary Advocate Shirin Sultana in the chair, the discussion was also attended by the party's joint secretary general Moazzem Hossain Alal, international affairs secretary Engineer Ishraq Hossain, Labour Party chairman Dr Mostafizur Rahman Iran, Prochar Dal president Mahfuz Kabir Mukta, general secretary Akbar Hossain, senior vice-president Al Amin Khan, joint general secretary Salma Aktar Shopna, Asaduzzaman Akash and Professor Shafiqul Islam, among others.
