Awami League (AL) General Secretary Obaidul Quader, also Road Transport and Bridges Minister, on Tuesday warned the party leaders, ministers and members of parliament (MPs) of taking stern actions if anyone tries to illegally interfere in the election process during the upcoming upazila polls.

Same time, the AL general secretary has also issued some directives for the partys concern in a statement issued on Tuesday. AL Office Secretary Biplab Borua signed the statement.

In the statement, the ruling AL gave organizational directives to its party leaders, ministers and lawmakers to refrain from interfering in the upazila parishad election and not to be involved in any activity that will destroy the neutrality of the upazila parishad polls.

Obaidul Quader said Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina pledges to cooperate with the Election Commission (EC) in holding the elections in a free, fair, and peaceful manner. The opinions of the countrymen will be reflected in the upcoming upazila elections, as the voters will exercise their franchise freely.

"The leaders and activists of the ruling party will participate the election, there will be no party symbols for the election.

Directives have been given to the leaders, ministers and lawmakers belonging to the AL to refrain from any interference and not to be involved in any activity that destroys neutrality of the elections," he said.

Quader said the EC has declared the schedule of the upazila election in two phases. The election will be held in phases. The administration and the law enforcers will perform their duties with neutrality.
