Three murdered in three districts

Three men were murdered in separate incidents in three districts - Kushtia, Kishoreganj and Gopalganj, on Friday.

KUSHTIA: A local leader of the student wing of the Jatiya Samajtantrik Dal (JSD) was stabbed to death by miscreants at Golapnagar in Bheramara Upazila of the district on Friday night.

The deceased was identified as Naif Ahmed Tushar, vice-president of Mokarimpur Union Unit of JSD Chhatra League.

Quoting locals, Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Bheramara Police Station (PS) Zahirul Haque said a group of 34 to 40 assailants on 20 motorbikes arrived at Golapnagar Bazar at around 8 pm when Tushar was having tea at a tea stall. They then stabbed Tushar indiscriminately and fled the scene, leaving him critically injured.

Injured Tushar was then rescued by locals and first taken to Bheramara Upazila Health Complex, and then, shifted to Rajshahi Medical College Hospital (RMCH) following the deterioration of his condition.

Later on, he succumbed to his injuries at the RMCH at around 10:30 pm.

Benazir Ahmed Benu, general secretary (GS) of Mokarimpur Union Unit of JSD, said the attackers came from the residence of Shahjahan Ali, joint GS of Bheramara Upazila Unit of BNP, for Iftar and returned the same place after the murder.

However, the law enforcers are trying to arrest the attackers, said the OC.

KISHOREGANJ: A man was killed and at least 15 others including a police official were injured in a brawl between two groups of villagers in Austagram Upazila of the district on Friday.

The deceased was identified as Ektar Mia, 50, a resident of Uttar Abdullahpur Village under the upazila.

Police, however, arrested 12 people in connection with the incident.

According to police and local sources, there has been a longstanding conflict between Anwar Hossain Khan, the incumbent chairman of Abdullahpur Union Parishad (UP), and former UP chairman Muktar Khan. The relatives of Anwar and Muktar Khan had a dispute in Italy recently. Following this dispute, the two groups locked into a clash on Thursday. The two groups again engaged in a clash at around 5 pm on Friday, which left Ektar Mia killed on the spot and at least 15 others injured.

Being informed, police recovered the body and sent it to Kishoreganj Sadar Hospital morgue for an autopsy.

Austagram PS OC Shafiqul Islam said that 12 people have been arrested for interrogation in connection with the incident. The situation is currently under control, the OC added.

GOPALGANJ: A man hacked his father-in-law to death over a family dispute in Sadar Upazila of the district on Friday noon.
The deceased was identified as Badsha Gazi, 65.

Quoting the deceaseds daughter, police said the accused Murad Ali, 40, hails from Narail, used to live in-laws house as his wife and Badshas daughter Tania was the headmistress of local Dhalaitola Primary School.

On Thursday, Murad along with his two children went to his village in Narail and returned the in-laws house on Friday noon.

 Subsequently, he hacked his father-in-law over a family dispute while Badsha was in sleep, leaving him dead on the spot.

Being informed, police recovered the body o and sent it to Gopalganj General Hospital morgue for an autopsy.

Confirming the incident, Gopalganj Sadar PS OC Md Anisur Rahman said locals apprehended the accused and handed him over to the police.
