SATKHIRA, Apr 7: Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) arrested a local Union Parishad (UP) member along with nine gold bars from Baikari border area in Sadar Upazila of the district recently.
The arrested man is Amjed Ali Morol, 45, a resident of Kaliani Village under the upazila. He is the member of Ward No. 1 under Baikari UP in the upazila.
Confirming the information, BGB-33 officials said that on information, a team of BGB led by Baikari BOP Subeder Qazi Badrul Alam took place in Kaliani Madrasah Mor area on Wednesday afternoon and arrested Amjed Ali red-handed along with the gold bars while he was trying to smuggle those.
The estimate market value of the seized gold, weighing 1.45kg, is Tk 1,01,57,224.
Satkhira BGB-33 Battalion Commander Lt Col Md Ashraful Haque said the arrested was handed over to Satkhira Sadar Model Police Station and the seized gold bars to Treasurers Office.
