Another accused was arrested by police in connection with the abduction of Natore's Singra Upazila Parishad chairman candidate Delwar Hossain, his brother and a leader from the district election office premises in Natore sadar.
Then police seized a microbus used for abduction and some local made sharp weapons.
Arrested accused Md Ataur Rahman, son of late Robiullah Pramanik of village Chalkpur under Singra upazila, was arrested on Saturday (April 20).
It was told at a press briefing held at Natore Police Super's office at about 7:00pm on Saturday.
Natore police super stated at the briefing that Delwar Hossain went outside his house to deposit money of submitting his nomination paper for contesting the Singra Upazila Parishad election on Monday (April 15) last. On their way, when they reached the District Election Office, some 15 to 20 unidentified people waylaid them and abducted them forcibly with a black microbus. Then they left the place for an unidentified destination hurriedly. Later, victim's brother Mojibar Rahman filed a case at Natore Sadar Police Station. In the afternoon on that day, the kidnappers left Delwar Hossain abandoned in front of his house. Conducting raid, police arrested an accused from Singra on Saturday for his alleged involvement in the abduction.
Besides, two more accused were arrested earlier by police.
It was stated at the press briefing that the microbus seized was recovered from the garage of the accused. After conducting searches inside the microbus, police found two China chapatis, one China knife, one Burmese cutter, two local made ramdas, two steel made pipes, two cricket stumps, one locally made chapati, and numerous leaflets, stickers, and posters with calendars of upazila chairman candidate Md Rubel.
