A man was
beaten to death reportedly by his nephew at Mehendiganj upazila in
Barishal district on Saturday afternoon.
The victim Anis Khan, 45, was uncle of the accused Ripon Bepari, 27, and a resident of Taroilisha village under Char Ekkaria union of the upazila.
Quoting family members, officer-in-charge of Mehendiganj Police Station Yeasinul Haque said there had been a long standing family dispute between the family members of the victim and the accused. As sequel to it, Anis slapped his sister and mother of the accused on Saturday morning which made Ripon enraged. In reply, Ripon hit his uncle with a stick, leaving him (Anis) unconscious.
Relatives rescued Anis and took him to a hospital at Barishal where the physicians declared him dead.
Following this, police recovered the body from the spot and arrested the accused, he said.
Legal actions will be taken in this regard, added the OC.
