It's Rizia Begum's skeleton: Son's two friends murder her after rape

Police arrested two murder accused Faisal, 35, son of late Ayub Ali, and Lal Chan, 32, son of late Kalam Howlader, of Madhya Katadia village.


The skeleton found after digging the floor of the homestead at Bakerganj in Barisal district is of missing widow Rizia Begum.

Earlier on Wednesday last, the skeleton buried at her own homestead at village Madhya Katakhali under Charmoddi union in Bakerganj upazila was recovered digging the floor.
The 60-year-old widow became the victim of murder after rape by two friends of her son Rasel Gazi about seven months ago. In order to conceal the incident, the killers buried her body inside her house.

The incident could not be known as the victim's only son Rasel living in Dhaka didn't inquire about his mother over the last six months, police said. Police have arrested two accused.

The Barisal district police stated it at a press conference on Sunday.

The arrested accused are Faisal, 35, son of late Ayub Ali, and Lal Chan, 32, son of late Kalam Howlader, of Madhya Katadia village.

Police said three days after exhuming the skeleton, Faisal was arrested from Kamrangirchar in Dhaka. According to confession, Lalchan was arrested from village Madhya Katadia later on.


According to the confessions of the accused, both Faisal and Lalchan forcibly entered Rizia Begum's room at about 3:00am on September 24 last year. Faisal raped the elderly woman. Then he strangled her and buried the body undearneath of the floor of the room. Both of them were Rizia Begum's son Rasel Gazi's friends. They used to take drugs together. When Rasel left for Dhaka, they used to take drugs sitting inside Rizia Begum's room. The elderly woman requested them frequently to stop taking drugs at her house. Being angry over her, they had commitetd the murder.

District police's additional police super Rezwan Ahmed said the woman's drug addicted son Rasel Gazi looks like a sick person. Because of it, he didn't inquire about his mother over the past sisx months. On the occasion of recent Eid-ul-Fitr, Rasel came home on April 13 last and discovered the skeleton his mother on the floor of the house. After taking permission from the court, police recovered the skeleton on Wednesday last.

The murdered Rizia Begum was the wife of late Zainal Abedin of village Madhya Katakhali. Her only son Rasel Gazi used to live in Dhaka along with his wife. According to his statement, he had contact with his mother about six months ago. He returned home on April 13 and found the room locked behind. Breaking a portion, he entered the room and found a portion of the floor was covered with a blanket. It made him suspicious. After removing those, he found something like a grave. Later, he found a skeleton after digging the floor.

Rizia Begum's younger brother Humayun Kabir filed a murder case at Bakerganj POlice Station in connection with the incident.
