World Vision launches new project to improve nutrition in Thakurgaon

World Vision Bangladesh has launched a 7 year-long  new project titled "Realizing Gender Equality, Attitudinal Change and Transformative Systems in Nutrition (REACTS-IN)" funded by Global Affairs Canada (GAC) in collaboration with IFPRI-HarvestPlus, Nutrition International and McGill University at Lakeshore Heights Hotel, Gulshan-1, Dhaka on Monday, says a press release.  

The REACTS-IN project has been working at 122 village in 5 sub-district of Thakurgaon district till May 2030 with the aim to Improve nutrition, nutrition-related rights, and gender equality for the poorest and most marginalized, especially women, adolescent girls, and children under 5 years of age in the targeted location. The project is working closely with relevant government departments and community through health system strengthening, promotion of gender equality for nutrition, adolescent sexual reproductive health and rights, food security and advocacy.   Over the next seven years, it will benefit 4, 00,000 people directly.

Professor Dr. Syed Modasser Ali, Chairman, Community Clinic Health Support Trust (CCHST), Health Services Division, Ministry of Health and Family was present as chief guest in the launching event.  The event was chaired by Dr. Md. Quiume Talukder, Line Director, Community Based Health Care, Health Services Division, Ministry of Health & Family Welfare. In this auspicious event, Special Guests from different government departments delivered their speeches expressing their commitment to support this project to achieve its objectives. Among the Special Guests there were A.K.M Nurunnabi Kabir, Managing Director (Additional Secretary), Community Clinic Health Support Trust (CCHST), Health Services Division, Ministry of Health and Family Welfare; Dr. Mohammad Mahbubur Rahman, Director General (Acting), Bangladesh National Nutrition Council, Ministry of Health and Family Welfare; Dr. Mohammad Khalequzzaman, Director (Research), Bangladesh Rice Research Institute and Dr. Khaleda Islam, Professor and Director, Institute of Nutrition and Food Science, University of Dhaka.

From World Vision Bangladesh, Chandan Z. Gomes, Senior Director Operation welcomed the guests and participants and presented the journey of the organization in Bangladesh with some remarkable achievements. Dr. Asrat Dibaba Tolossa, the Chief of Party for REACTS-IN project along with Md Wahidul Amin, Country Coordinator, HarvestPlus Bangladesh and Saiqa Siraj, Country Director, Nutrition International Bangladesh presented the overview of the project and roles and responsibilities of the consortium partners.
