BNP on Monday postponed its rally scheduled for April 26, showing the ongoing countrywide severe heatwave as the reason.

Shairul Kabir Khan, member of BNPs media cell told the Daily Observer that, "The decision was taken at a joint meeting of the partys Dhaka South Metropolitan unit. A new date for the rally will be announced later."
BNP had planned for a major showdown in Dhaka on April 26 by holding a rally at Naya Paltan to press the demand of release of party Chairperson Khaleda Zia and to protest against the arrest and sentencing of other leaders and activists.

BNP Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam was scheduled to lead the rally, said a letter signed by Saidur Rahman Mintoo, BNP Dhaka South unit office secretary.

BNP sources said BNP had sent a letter to the DMP commissioner on April 20 seeking permission to hold the rally.
