CHATTOGRAM Apr 24: Chattogram Port is set to be a land port, cargo handling will be given to private and foreign companies.
Chattogram Port Authority (CPA) Chairman Rear Admiral M Sohail said at a news conference on Wednesday, all operational activities of Chattogram Port would be given to local and foreign operators.
Under this model, the port authority acts as regulatory body and landlord, while port operations, especially cargo handling, is done by private companies.
Examples of landlord ports are Rotterdam, Antwerp, New York, and Singapore since 1997.

A landlord port can leverage private investment from terminal operators/stevedores, to enhance their ability to maintain the ports basic infrastructure, berths, quays, and access roadways and to mobilise resources for environmental and security initiatives.
The CPA management has taken steps to transform the Chattogram Port into a land port, by handing over operational activities of the most important container teminals of the port. CPA Chairman told reporters, Saudi Arabias Red Sea Gateway Terminal (RSGT) has been entrusted to operate the newly built Patenga Container Terminal (PCT). In December 2023, the CPA inked a concession agreement with Red Sea Gateway Terminal (RSGT) authorising it to operate the newly built Patenga Container Terminal for 22 years.
Denmarks APM Terminals has proposed to build the Laldia Container Terminal as a public-private partnership project.
