Rail link on Dhaka-Mymensingh route restored


The rail communication between Dhaka and Tangail, Narsingdi, and Mymensingh has been restored on Saturday evening, a day after a derailment at Joydebpur Junction.

On Friday, seven coaches of a Dhaka-Tangail commuter train were derailed after a the commuter train hit a Gazipur-bound oil-laden train allegedly due to an error of the signalman on the south end of the railway junction in Gazipur.

Three staffers, including the locomaster of the train, were injured.

Deputy Assistant Engineer of Joydebpur Junction Railway Station Sirajul Islam said train movement went back to normal around 7pm.
He said the line was declared normal after rescue operation ended around 5:20pm on Saturday.

In response to the accident, authorities have established three probe committees to investigate the causes and contributing factors of the collision.
