Highest temperature dropped below 40ºC after many days

The Met Office forecast that day and night temperatures across the country are likely to fall by one to two degrees Celsius for two days, beginning at 6:00pm on Saturday.

On Saturday, the highest temperature of 39.7 degrees Celsius was recorded in Rajshahi city.

Countrys highest temperature dropped below  40 degrees Celsius after many days.

Since the beginning of April, the countrys highest temperature was recorded above 40 degrees Celsius at many places.

The capital endured comparatively calmer weather for the last three days, it recorded the highest temperature of 38.3 degrees Celsius on Thursday, 38.1 degrees Celsius on Friday and 36.9 degrees Celsius on Saturday.

Rains or thunder showers may continue across the country, the Met Office predicted.

According to the Met Office, rains or thunder showers accompanied by temporary gusty or squally winds are likely to occur at a few places across Sylhet division and at one or two places in Rangpur, Rajshahi, Dhaka, Mymensingh, Barishal and Chattogram divisions with hailstorms at isolated places for 24 hours from 6:00pm on Saturday. The weather may remain mainly dry with temporary partly cloudy skies elsewhere in the country today.

Commencing from 6:00pm today, rains or thunder showers accompanied by temporary gusty or squally winds are likely to occur at a few places in Mymensingh, Barishal, Chattogram and Sylhet divisions and at one or two places in Rangpur, Rajshahi, Dhaka and Khulna divisions with hailstorms at isolated places, Weatherman KH Hafizur Rahman predicted.

He forecast that the heatwave may abate at many places in the country.

Day temperatures may fall by one to two degrees Celsius and night temperature may fall slightly in the country.

From 6:00pm on Monday, rains or thunder showers accompanied by temporary gusty or squally winds are likely to occur at a few places in  Mymensingh, Dhaka, Barishal, Chattogram and Sylhet divisions and at one or two places in Rangpur, Rajshahi and Khulna divisions with hailstorms at isolated places.

Day and night temperatures may fall by one to two degrees Celsius across the country on Monday, the Met Office predicted.

Meanwhile, the Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS) with support from the UNICEF will issue national guideline on heat-related illnesses today to protect children and vulnerable populations including pregnant women from health risks.

The national guideline, developed in collaboration with experts from health and other relevant sectors, will provide a comprehensive framework of effective response to heat-related health risks.

Health and Family Welfare Minister Samanta Lal Sen will attend the launching ceremony as the chief guest while Sate Minister for Health and Family Welfare Rokeya Sultana will attend as special guest.

Md Jahangir Alam, Secretary of Ministrys Health Services Division, Emma Brigham, Representative of UNICEF Bangladesh and Prof Dr Abul Bashar Mohammad Khurshid Alam will also attend the event, among others.
