9 injured in Ctg  College BCL clash

CHATTOGRAM, May 9:  At least nine students were injured during a clash between two factions of the Bangladesh Chhatra League Chittagong College unit.

The supporters of the BCL President Mahmudul Karim and General Secretary Subhash Mallik Sabuj clashed around 1pm on Thursday.

At least nine students from both sides were injured in this incident. It is said that all the injured have received first aid from Chittagong Medical College (CMC) Hospital.

Chittagong College Police Outpost Sub-Inspector Sarwar Azam confirmed the matter to The Daily Observer.

Among the nine injured were Identified as Jaber Bin Zafar, Imtiaz Hossain Chaber, Riaz Uddin, Abdul Majed Faisal, Mahibi Tajwar, Erfan Alam, Johnny, Mizan and Istiaq.

Police said that the two groups engaged in a clash over establishing supremacy. The situation is now under control, he said.

Responding to queries on the matter, Vice President Monirul Islam Monir said, "That students need envelopes to submit documents during first year admission. Students are being forced by Subhash Mallik and his supporters to purchase envelopes for Tk 100 instead of Tk 20.

They also beat up some ordinary students for protesting these things. When we asked to know the reason for selling envelopes at higher prices, they got into a conflict. Some of us were injured in their attack."
