The body of Squadron Leader Asim Jawad, who died after trainer fighter jet of Bangladesh Air Force YAK-130 crashed into the Karnaphuli River in Patenga of Chattogram on Thursday, has arrived his home district Manikganj.
The Air Force-219 helicopter carrying Asim Jawad’s body landed at the Shaheed Miraj-Tapan Stadium in Manikganj around 12 pm on Friday.
Pilot Asim’s body was accompanied by his father Dr Amanullah, wife Antara Akhtar and two children.
Family sources said Asim Jawad’s namaz-e-janaza will be held at the stadium. After that he will be laid to rest in the Seota cemetery of the district town.
Air Force Wing Commander Annu said that after the body of Squadron Leader Asim Jawwad reached Manikganj, he was given a guard of honour. The coffin of his body was later placed in a freezing car.
On Thursday, Squadron Leader Asim died while undergoing treatment at Navy hospital BNS Patenga. Earlier, Asim and his Co-pilot Wing Commander Sohan Hasan Khan were injured after a trainer fighter jet of Bangladesh Air Force YAK-130 crashed into the Karnaphuli River in Patenga of Chattogram on Thursday morning. They were rescued and taken to the hospital.
