Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) has arrested a fugitive accused in the murder of Bus Rapid Transit (BRT) Project engineer Mohammad Phulbabu.
Accused Md Masud Rana, 34, a helper of 'Ashmani Paribahan' bus and an inhabitant of village Dhap Kotki under Kotwali Police Station in Rangpur city, was arrested from Gabtoli bus terminal area at about 2:00am on Friday.
Assistant Police Super of RAB and assistant Director Md. Mahfuzur Rahman said acting on a tip-off a RAB team conducted a drive in Gabtoli area in the city and arrested him.
Injured Mohammad Phulbabu died at Uttara Adhunik Medical College Hospital at about 1:50pm on April 13.
Earlier, he and his colleague Yasin had an altercation with 'Ashmani Paribahan' helper Masud Rana under Azampur Overbridge. Then Masud Rana forcibly picked up Yasin on board of his minibus and dropped him at House Building stoppage. When several staff of the CGGP protested it, they had a quarrel with five to seven people including Masud Rana. At that time, they injured Engineer Phulbabu in a planned way beating him up mercilessly.
Mohammad Phulbabu was a site engineer at China Gijoba Group of Companies of BRT.
Later, Jyotsna Khatun, wife of the deceased, filed a case with Uttara West Police Station against several persons, including Masud, on April 14.
"Legal actions have been taken against him," said Mahfuzur Rahman.
Meanwhile, police arrested Ashmani Paribahan minibus driver Al Amin, 24, immediately after the murder of Phulbabu.
