3 killed, 30 injured in road accidents

At least three people were killed and 30 others injured in separate road accidents in Sirajganj and Dinajpur on Friday.

Our Sirajganj Correspon-dent reports two people, including a woman, were killed and six others were injured in separate road accidents in Shahjadpur of Sirajganj on Friday morning.
The deceased were Nargis Khatun, 35, wife of Selim of Tettiarkanda area of Shahjadpur upazila, and Arshed Pramanik, 60, of Shelachapari area.

According to the police, one accident took place around 11:00am on Friday at Jugnidah Karitala on the Bogura-Nagarbari Highway and another occurred in Baghabari area on the same highway half an hour later.

A woman named Nargis Khatun, a passenger of an auto-rickshaw, was killed and driver of the auto was injured after a speedy truck hit the auto in Jugnidah area. The injured were rescued and admitted to Baghabari North Bengal Tank-Lorry Cooperative Society Hospital.

Another accident occurred at around 11:30am after a truck rammed an auto-rickshaw and a motorcycle near the Baghabari gas office of the upazila.

The auto-rickshaw passenger Arshad died on the spot, said police. Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Hatikumrul Highway Police Station MA Odud said police have visited the spots.

Our Rajshahi Correspondent writes a man was killed and his friend sustained injuries after their motorbike collided head-on with a micro-bus on the Bagha-Baneshwar Highway in Rajshahi city early Friday. The accident took place around 4:30am at Binodpur Bazar in the city.

The deceased were identified as Shahid Hossain, 35, son of Mosharaf Hossain, a resident of Durlobhpur village under Patiya upazila, and the injured Jony Hossain, 32, is undergoing treatment at Rajshai Medical College Hospital.

According to locals, the duo was heading towards Charghat on a motorcycle after buying phensidyl from the Bagha border area.

On the way, their bike collided head-on with a microbus coming from opposite direction, leaving Shahid dead on the spot and Jony critically injured.

Bagha Police Station Officer-in-Charge Ali Mahmud said being informed, police recovered the body from the spot and hand it over to the family upon their request. Police have also seized 25 bottles of phensidyl and a motorcycle from the spot, he said.

An unnatural death case was filed with the police station and legal action will be taken in this regard, added the OC.

Our Dinajpur Correspondent adds at least 25 people were injured after a driver of a passenger bus lost control and hit a roadside tree at Hili union under Hakimpur upazila in Dinajpur district on Friday afternoon.

The accident took place on the Dinajpur-Hili road at Dangapara area under the upazila. Confirming the matter, Hakimpur Police Station sub-inspector Shamim Hossain said the injured were rescued and taken to Hakimpur Upazila Health Complex for treatment.

The accident occurred when the bus with several farm labourers was heading towards Hili from Dinajpur. On the way, the driver of the bus lost control over the steering and hit a roadside tree, leaving 25 of them injured, he said. However, the driver and helper of the bus went into hiding after the accident, added the SI.
