679 killed, 934 injured in  accidents in April: Report

A total of 679 people were killed and 934 were injured in 672 road accidents across the country in the month of April. Of the total fatalities, 93 were women and 108 children.

Road Safety Foundation in a report published on Sunday said these road accidents have caused a loss of human resources of Tk 2,119 crore.
Some 259 people died in 316 motorcycle accidents (47pc), which is 38.14 per cent of total deaths, according to report.

At least 113 pedestrians were killed while 96 drivers and their assistants were killed during this period.

During this period as many as 9 people were killed and 68 injured in seven waterway accidents while 45 people were killed and 24 injured in 38 railway accidents.

The Road Safety Foundation compiled the report based on data from nine national dailies, seven online news portals, various electronic media and its own data.
