Nine killed, 32 injured in road accidents

Nine people including a woman were killed and at least 32 others injured in separate road accidents in 11 districts - Brahmanbaria, Thakurgaon, Tangail, Lalmonirhat, Gopalganj, Rajbari, Chuadanga, Bagerhat, Naogaon, Narail and Dinajpur, in recent times.

BIJOYNAGAR, BRAHMANBARIA: A young man was killed and at least five others were injured in a road accident in Bijoynagar Upazila of the district on Tuesday morning.

The accident took place in Dattakhola area on the Sheikh Hasina road under the upazila at around 10:30 am.

The deceased was identified as Jitu Mia, 27, son of Pailan Khan, a resident of Goalkhola Village under Pattan Union in the upazila.

It was known that a Brahmanbaria-bound CNG-run auto-rickshaw collided head-on with a motorcycle in Dattakhola area in the morning, which left at least six persons injured.

Locals rescued the injured and rushed them to Brahmanbaria General Hospital, where the on-duty doctor declared Jitu Mia dead.
Being informed, police recovered the body.

Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Bijoynagar Police Station (PS) Asadul Islam confirmed the incident, adding that necessary steps would be taken in this regard.

THAKURGAON: A young man was killed after a truck rammed his motorbike on the Thakurgaon-Gareya road in Sadar Upazila of the district on Monday evening.

The identities of the deceased could not be known immediately.

Police and local sources said the youth was heading towards Gareya riding on his motorcycle in the evening. On the way, when he reached Gareya Police Line area, a speedy truck rammed his motorcycle coming from the opposite direction, which left him dead on the spot.

Being informed, police recovered the body from the scene.

Thakurgaon Sadar PS OC ABM Firoz Wahid confirmed the incident, adding that the law enforcers are trying to identify the deceased and an unnatural death case was filed with the PS on Tuesday in this regard.

MIRZAPUR, TANGAIL: A motorcyclist was killed and another injured after being hit by an unidentified private car on the Dhaka-Tangail highway in Mirzapur Upazila of the district on Monday afternoon.

The deceased was identified as Idris Ali Mridha, 64, son of late Arfan Ali, a resident of Chakleshwar Village under the upazila.

According to local sources, the accident occurred at around 3 pm when Idris along with another was returning home riding on a motorcycle.

On the way, an unidentified motorbike hit their motorcycle, which resulted Idris and another fell on the highway. At that time, a private car ran over the duo, leaving Idris dead on the spot.

Being informed, police recovered the body and handed it over to the deceaseds family members without an autopsy upon their request.

Locals rescued the injured and admitted him to Kumudini Hospital in Tangail.

Sub-Inspector (SI) of Gorai Highway PS Anisuzzaman confirmed the incident, adding that legal action would be taken in this regard.

LALMONIRHAT: A man was killed after being hit by a truck in Kaliganj Upazila of the district on Monday morning.

The accident took place in Shrutidhar area on the Lalmonirhat-Burimari highway under Bhotmari Union of the upazila at around 11 am.

The deceased was identified as Baccha Mia, 60, a resident of the area. He was a day-labourer by profession.

Local sources said Bacchu Mia was going to his workplace from the house riding on a bicycle. On the way, a truck hit his bicycle in the area, leaving him dead on the spot.

Being informed, police recovered the body.

However, the law enforcers could not seize the killer truck as its driver along with his vehicle managed to flee the scene.
Bhotmari Union Parishad Chairman Md Farhad Hossain confirmed the incident.

GOPALGANJ: A man was killed and two others were injured when a passenger bus hit a private car in Muksudpur Upazila of the district on Monday morning.

The accident took place in College Mor area on the Dhaka-Khulna highway under the upazila at around 8 am.
The deceased was identified as Sher Khan, 45, hailed from Mirpur in Dhaka.

Police sources said a passenger-laden bus of Narail Express from Narail hit a private car leaving from Dhaka in College Mor area on the Dhaka-Khulna highway under the upazila in the morning. Sher Khan died on spot and two others were injured at that time.

Being informed, police recovered the body.

The law enforcers, however, seized the bus but its driver and his helper managed to flee the scene.

Muksudpur PS OC Md Ashraful Alam confirmed the incident, adding that legal action would be taken in this regard.

RAJBARI: At least 20 passengers were injured after a bus overturned into a roadside ditch in Sadar Upazila of the district on Monday morning.

The accident took place on the Daulatdia-Cumilla regional highway in Kallyanpur area of the upazila at around 9:30 am.

According to local sources, a bus carrying 35 to 40 passengers was heading towards Daulatdia from Kushtia in the morning.

On the way, the driver of the bus lost control over the steering of the vehicle when he tried to overtake a van and overturned into the ditch in Kallyanpur area. At least 20 passengers of the bus were critically injured at that time.

Locals rescued the injured and took them to Rajbari Sadar Hospital for treatment.

Confirming the incident, nursing supervisor of the hospital Abdullah Al Mamun said that among the injured, four were admitted to the hospital as their condition was critical and the rest of others were released after given first aid.

Ahladipur Highway PS Sergeant Mahmud-un-Nabi said the driver and helper of the vehicle escaped the scene soon after the accident and process is underway to take the bus under police custody.

CHUADANGA: A youth was killed in a road accident in the district town on Sunday morning.

The accident took place in Chuadanga Womens College area of the town at around 10 am.

The deceased was identified as Bdur Rashid, 30, a resident of Bujrukgargari Para under Chuadanga Municipality.

Police and local sources said Rashid was going to his work place at Kaderganj from the house in the morning riding on a motorcycle. On the way, an auto-rickshaw hit his motorcycle near Chuadanga Womens College, which left him fall on the road.
At that time, a tractor ran over him.

Locals then rescued him in critical condition and rushed to Chuadanga Sadar Hospital, where the on-duty doctor declared Rashid dead.

Being informed, police recovered the body and sent it to the hospital morgue for an autopsy.

Chuadanga Sadar PS OC Sikandar Ali confirmed the incident, adding that a case was filed in this regard.

BAGERHAT: The helper of a truck was killed and the driver injured in a road accident in Fakirhat Upazila of the district on Sunday noon.

The deceased was identified as Rohit Kazi, 22, son of Mannan Kazi of Bhabanipur Village in Sadar Upazila of Rajbari.

The injured is Abdul Aziz, 55, son of Arshad Ali of Moharajpur Village.

Quoting locals, Fakirhat PS OC Md Ashraful Alam said a Mongla-bound truck hit a covered van and overturned after losing its control over the steering in Mulghar area, which left the helper of the truck dead on the spot and its driver critically injured.

Being informed, police recovered the body.

The injured was rescued and taken to Fakirhat Upazila Health Complex.

However, police seized the truck and the covered van from the scene, the OC added.

PORSHA, NAOGAON: Two people were seriously injured in a road accident in Porsha Upazila of the district on Sunday morning.

The injured persons are: Bidyut, 27, and Abdul Aziz, 30, residents of Alankarpur Village under Mohadevpur Upazila in the district. They are construction workers by profession.

It was known that Bidyut and Abdul Aziz were heading towards Porsha from Mohadevpur in the morning.

On the way, the motorcycle hit two persons standing on the road in Chakgopal area at around 10 am after losing its control over the steering. The two motorcyclists were critically injured at that time.

They were then rescued by locals and taken to Nitpur Health Complex, where the on-duty doctor shifted the duo to Rajshahi Medical College Hospital for better treatment.  

NARAIL: A college student was killed and another injured in a road accident in Sadar Upazila of the district on Saturday morning.

The accident took place in Kararbil area on the Narail-Fultala regional highway at around 7am.

The deceased was identified as Mamun Samaddar, 22, son of Bablu Samaddar of Raghunathpur Village under the upazila. He was an honours student of Narail Government Victoria College.

Quoting locals, police said Mamun faced the tragic accident when he was on the way to Yadabpur Village under Kalia Upazila riding on a motorcycle.

On the way, when he reached Kararbil area, his motorcycle hit a bicycle, which left Mamun dead on the spot and cyclist Kajem Ali critically injured.

The injured was rescued and taken to Jashore General Hospital.

Being informed, police recovered the body of the deceased and sent it to the hospital morgue.

Narail Sadar PS OC Mohammad Saiful Islam confirmed the incident.

GHORAGHAT, DINAJPUR: A mentally-imbalanced woman was killed after being hit by a truck in Ghoraghat Upazila of the district on Thursday night.

The accident took place in Kalabari Bhandari Bazar area under Singra Union of the upazila at around 9:45 pm.

The deceased was identified as Tuli Begum, 50, daughter of Ahmed Ali of Ranirhat Mandal Para area under Shahjahanpur Upazila in Bogura.

Police and local sources said the woman used to roam around here and there. On Thursday night, a truck hit her while she was crossing a road in Kalabari Bhandari Bazar area, which left her dead on the spot.

Being informed, police recovered the body and handed it over to the deceaseds family members.

However, the truck driver along with his vehicle managed to flee the scene.

Ghoraghat PS OC Asaduzzaman Asad confirmed the incident, adding that a case was filed in this regard.
