Liberation War organiser Humayun Kabir Hiru dies


Jatiya Samajtantrik Dal (JSD) central committee's former general secretary, organiser of the War of Liberation in 1971, and former MP Professor Humayun Kabir Hiru passed away at about 12:55am on Friday (May 17). He was 80.

He died at Betagi Upazila Health Complex in Barguna district.
Humayun Kabir Hiru left behind his wife, a son, three daughters, relatives, friends and well-wishers to mourn his death.

It is learnt that he got admitted to the hospital after being sick with high blood pressure at about 12 o'clock on Thursday midnight.

A pall of gloom descended everywhere after the death of former lawmaker went viral on the social media.

With the nomination from JSD, Humayun Kabir Hiru was elected member of parliament from Barguna-1 (Barguna Sadar-Betagi) constitunecy on May 7, 1986 and served as MP till March 3, 1988. He was a former principal of Dhaka Modern College, former professor of Habibullah Bahar College, former director of the Bangladesh Chapter of United Nations Child Rights Forum and Mujib Bahini's commander.

Outside politics, he was also associated with many social organisations.

After namaj-e-janaza at Central Eidgah Ground in Betagi Municipal Town after Asr prayer on Friday, Humayun Kabir Hiru was buried at their family graveyard at Ward No. 8 of Betagi Municipality in Barguna with state honour.
