Land Minister Narayon Chandra Chanda said on Wednesday that preparation of Bangladesh Digital Survey (BDS) maps in six areas of the country including Narayanganj will begin in July and completed within the stipulated period.

"Citizens will be involved with making the maps through campaign activities," he said at a seminar on Bangladesh Digital Land Survey and Land Management Programme held at the conference room of Narayanganj Deputy Commissioners office.

Land Secretary Khalilur Rahman chaired the seminar addressed by Director General of Department of Land Record and Survey (DLRS) Anis Mahmud and Deputy Commissioner of Narayanganj Mohammad Mahmudul Haque.

Digital Land Management System (EDLMS) Project Director Zahurul Haque made a visual presentation on BDS.

Among others, DLRS Directors Abdul Kader Sheikh and Mominur Rashid, Dhaka Zonal Settlement Officer Mizanur Rahman, concerned officials of the ministry, DLRS, EDLMS Project and Narayanganj District Administration, and project partners from South Korea were present.

Narayanganj District Awami League President Heroic Freedom Fighter Abdul Hai, City Corporation councilors, local elite, stakeholders, media, and civil society representatives were also present.

BDS operation will start in 32 more upazilas of the country under another project.

Narayon Chanda said that the goal of Bangladesh Digital Survey is to establish one person, one khatian (Record of Rights - ROR) and one Daag (Plot) system in the country. If the system is implemented, citizen harassment and land-related lawsuits will be reduced significantly.

Implementation of smart land management and the BDS is very important in tackling challenges of the Fourth Industrial Revolution (4IR), he said.

Land service digitalization and BDS programmes have been taken to  implement 31 specific directives given by Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina in 2014.
