India imposes 3-day ban on Bangladeshi travellers for elections

Indian authorities have stopped passenger travel from Bangladesh through Benapole border on a travel visa for three days due to the ongoing Lok Sabha elections.

India's West Bengal's Lok Sabha elections is scheduled to be held on May 20.

To keep the law and order situation normal during the polls, this decision has been taken.
However, Bangladeshi passport holders with medical and emergency visas are out of the purview of the restriction.

The order will remain in force from Saturday (May 18) morning till the evening of May 20.

India's Petrapole Immigration Authority issued a letter in this regard to the Benapole checkpost immigration authorities on Friday.

The authorities of the Benapole-Petrapole port have stopped import-export trade at the ports of the two countries due to the Sharsha Upazila Parishad polls in Jashore, India's Lok Sabha polls in West Bengal, and Buddha Purnima.

Benapole port director Rezaul Karim said, "Regular travel activities between the two countries will resume on Tuesday (May 21)."
