Govt bans sea fishing for 65 days from today

The government imposed a ban for 65 days from today (May 20) on catching all types of fishes in the countrys marine territory to conserve and stock marine fishes.

The ban will continue until July 23, according to a circular of the Ministry of Fisheries and Livestock.

Since last few years, a similar ban was also imposed from May 20 to July 23 following the provisions of Marine Fisheries Act, 2020.

The government imposed the ban to ensure safe breeding of fishes and having sustainable marine fish stock in the country, according to the circular.

It also stated that the ministry of fisheries and livestock will monitor the ban in association with the Coast Guard and other authorities concerned.

According to the circular, sea-bound travel of the marine fishers will remain cent percent restricted for the period while the ice factories in the region will keep their production limited to ensure that no one is going to the sea for catching fishes. The marine fishing boats and vessels have been asked to stay anchored during the period.

According to the circular, the families of around 3,11,062 marine fisheries will get 86 kgs of food in two phases during the period for the survival as alternative arrangement.
