Newton, Sumaiya placed on remand in rape case

Rafiqul Islam Newton, General Secretary of Bangladesh Jujitsu Association (BJA) and his accomplice Sumaiya were placed on a one-day remand by a Dhaka court on Sunday in a rape case.

Metropolitan Magistrate Mohammad Jashim passed the order after a hearing.

Sub Inspector Shakil Joarder of Sher-e-Bangla Nagar Police, also investigation officer (IO) in the case, produced the duo before the court with a prayer to take them on remand for five days.Based on secret information, a team of RAB-12 conducted dives in the citys Shah Ali and Mirpur areas in the capital on Saturday and arrested Newton and his accomplice Sumaiya.

Bangladesh Jujutsu Association General Secretary Md Rafiqul Islam Newton repeatedly raped her by threatening to post the rape pictures and videos on social media. Another woman helps him in this work. In this connection the victim woman filed a case with Sher-e-Bangla Nagar Police Station as the plaintiff.
