UP chairman held in Jhenaidah for trying to influence in polls

Police arrested a union parishad (UP) chairman on the charge of trying to influence in the upazila elections at Shailkupa upazila in Jhenaidah district on Tuesday.

The detained is Sikandar Hossain Molla, chairman of Tribeni union in the upazila.

Safiqul Islam, offcer in-charge of Shailkupa Police Station, confirmed the matter.

Ismail Hossain, presiding officer of Basantapur High School center, said law enforcement agencies took action against Sikandar for allegedly influencing voters outside the polling centre.

Locals said, UP chairman Sikandar was allegedly influencing on behalf of chairman candidate Shamim Hossain.
