Over 30 percent votes cast in second phase: CEC

Chief Election Commissioner (CEC) Kazi Habibul Awal talked to journalists at Nirbachan Bhaban, Agargaon in the capital on Tuesday afternoon.


Chief Election Commissioner (CEC) Kazi Habibul Awal has said more than 30 per cent votes were cast in the elections at 156 Upazila Parishads under the second phase on Tuesday.

He told journalists while speaking to journalists at Nirbachan Bhaban, Agargaon in the capital on Tuesday afternoon.
The CEC said: "The voting in the Upazila Parishad elections took place. Elections were held at 36 upazilas across the country. Among those, voting was held at 132 upazilas through ballot papers, while at 24 upazilas under the Electronic Voting machines."

"No incident of violence took place in the election. Two people were admitted to hospitals after being injured, but no major violence took place. The elections were held in a peaceful manner. The presence of voters at the election may be 30 per cent plus. But, you'll get accurate information on Wednesday."

Kazi Habibul Awal said the law enforcing agencies were active. More members of different forces were deployed at every centre this time.

The CEC further said the law enforcing agencies interfered whenever any attempt was made for vote rigging in the upazila parishad elections at anywhere in the country. A total of 25 people were arrested and 10 of them were jailed instantly for their involvement in vote rigging. Two were killed. It happened not centering over vote, but due to hot and humid weather. We pray for their departed souls.
