22 people arrested with drugs in 10 districts

A total of 22 people including two women have been arrested along with drugs in separate drives in 10 districts - Rajshahi, Bandarban, Coxs Bazar, Pabna, Rangamati, Brahmanbaria, Naogaon, Sirajganj, Lalmonirhat and Patuakhali, in recent times.  

RAJSHAHI: Two people including a woman were arrested along with drugs in separate drives in the district in two days.

Members of Rapid Action Battalion (RAB), in a drive, arrested an elderly woman along with 1,015 litres of local liquor from Godagari Upazila on Thursday evening.

RAB-9 confirmed the matter at a press release on Friday.

The arrested is Arjan Begum, 64, daughter of late Jahir Uddin, a resident of Madarpur area in the upazila.

RAB-5 sources said on information, a team of the elite forces from Rajshahi Camp conducted a drive in Madarpur area at around 7 pm, and detained her along with the liquor.

After filing of a case under the Narcotics Control Act with Godagari Police Station (PS), the arrested woman was handed over to police, the RAB sources added.

On the other hand, RAB-5 members, in another drive, arrested a man along with 102 bottles of phensedyl and two one-shooter guns from Charghat PS area in the district on Wednesday night.

RAB-9 confirmed the matter at a press release on Thursday.

The arrested man is Rafiqul Islam, 42, son of late Mojibur Rahman, a resident of Kajla area in the city.

RAB-5 sources said on information, a team of the elite force conducted a drive in Rawtha Ghoshpara area under Charghat PS at night, and detained Rafiqul along with the phensedyl and the firearms.

After filing of a case under the Narcotics Control Act with Charghat PS, the arrested man was handed over to the police, the RAB sources added.

BANDARBAN: Members of RAB, in a drive, arrested a woman along with 2.7 kilograms of opium worth around Tk 2 crore 70 lakh from Sadar Upazila in the district recently.

The arrested persons are: May Pru Ching, 45, a resident of Madhyam Para area under Bandarban Municipality.

RAB-15 sources said acting on a tip-off, a team of the elite force conducted a drive in Madhyampara area of the district town on Monday, and arrested the woman while she was trying to escape from the scene.

Later on, the elite force seized total of 2.7 kilograms of opium worth around Tk 2 crore 70 lakh, from a bag of her.
However, legal actions will be taken against her, the RAB sources added.

UKHIYA, COXS BAZAR: Members of RAB-15, in a drive, arrested four drug dealers along with 7 lakh yaba tablets from Ukhiya Upazila of the district recently.

The arrested persons are: Abdul Amin, 40, son of Hazi Mohammad Ali, and Jafar Alam, 26, son of late Dil Mohammad, residents of Ward No. 6 Deil Para; Mohammad Abdullah, 35, son of Abu Syed, and Nurul Absar, 28, son of late Mohammad Kashem, residents of Ward No. 6 Godar Beel area under Teknaf Upazila in the district.

RAB-15 sources said on information, a team of the elite force set up a check-post in Chengchhari Patuartek Beach area on the Marine Drive road under Jaliapalang Union of Ukhiya Upazila, and detained the four along with the yaba tablets from a Pajero jeep.

All of the arrested persons are listed drug dealers.

RAB-15 Commander Lt Col AHM Sazzad Hossain confirmed the matter.

ISHWARDI, PABNA: Police arrested a member of Railway Nirapatta Bahini along with 295 bottles of phensedyl and cash Tk 1,30,500 from Ishwardi Upazila in the district recently.

Meanwhile, a woman was also arrested for her involvement in drug dealing.

Additional Superintendent of Police (ASP) Biplab Kumar Goswami confirmed the matter in a press conference at Ishwardi PS.

The detained persons are: Masum Hawladar, 30, works at Ishwardi Railway Junction Stations RNB, hails from Pirojpur Sadar, and Jharna Khatun, 28, wife of Hafizul Islam of Barakotha Village under Wazirpur Upazila in Barishal.

ASP Biplab Kumar Goswami said the two were arrested along with phensedyl and cash in separate drives from two rented houses in Fakir Bottala of Piyarakhali and Skulpara areas of Station Road in the upazila town. Another accused, named Hafizul Islam managed to flee the scene sensing the presence of the law enforcers.

Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Ishwardi PS Rafiqul Islam confirmed the matter, adding that a case has been filed under the Narcotics Control Act against the trio in this regard.

KAPTAI, RANGAMATI: Police, in a drive, arrested two drug dealers along with 30 litres of local liquor from Chandraghona PS area in the upazila of the district recently.

The arrested are: Kilimang Marma, 38, and Singmang Marma, 29.

Police sources said on information, a team of the law enforcers led by Sub-Inspector (SI) Palash conducted a drive in Raikhali Union Parishad area under Chandraghona PS, and detained the duo along with the local liquor.

After filing of a case under the Narcotics Control Act with Chandraghona PS, the arrested were produced before the court.
Chandraghona PS OC Ansarul Karim confirmed the matter.

BIJOYNAGAR, BRAHMANBARIA: Members of RAB-9 arrested a man along with 9,890 yaba tablets from Bijoynagar Upazila in the district recently.

The arrested is Anwar, son of Hazi Muslim Mia, a resident of Chullabari area of Kalisima Village under Chandura Union in the upazila.

RAB-9 sources said on information, a team of the elite force from Brahmanbaria Camp conducted a drive in the area, arrested Anwar along with the yaba tablets.

RAB-9 Media Officer Md Mashihur Rahman Sohel confirmed the matter, adding that a case under the Narcotics Control Act was filed with Bijoynagar PS in this regard.

PORSHA, NAOGAON: Members of Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) arrested five people along with 80 pieces of tapentadol tablets and four litres of local liquor from Porsha Upazila in the district recently.

The arrested are: Tapash Pramanik, 29, Musa Shah, 30, Abu Musa, 35, and Sadhan Chandra, 30, and Rashidul Islam, 32.

Naogaon Battalions 16 BGB Nitpur Camp Subedar Munsed Ali said acting on a tip-off, a team of the BGB led by Habilder Abdul Quddus arrested Tapash, Musa Shah, Abu Musa and Sadhan Chandra from the border area along with the drugs.

Meanwhile, another team of BGB arrested Rashidul Islam along with 10 pieces of tapentadol tablets from Shitli area in the upazila.

After filing of separate cases under the Narcotics Control Act, the arrested were handed over to police, the BGB official added.

SIRAJGANJ: Members of RAB, in a drive, arrested two alleged drug peddlers along with 216 kilograms of hemp from Tarash Upazila in the district recently.

The arrested are: Alamin, 22, hails from Debidwar Upazila in Cumilla; and Ershad alias Hridoy, 27, from Chabitola Village of Sirajganj.

Md Maruf Hossain, commanding officer of RAB-12, confirmed the matter in a press release.

Acting on a tip-off, a team of the elite force set up a check-post on the Dhaka-Rajshahi highway in Dhanchar Hamkuria area under Tarash PS and challenged a covered van. While searching the van, they have recovered a total of 216 kilograms of hemp and arrested the duo, he said.

A case under the Narcotics Control Act was filed with the PS against the arrested persons and legal actions will be taken in this regard, the RAB official added.

LALMONIRHAT: Members of RAB arrested a drug peddler along with phensedyl from Hatibanda Upazila in the district recently.
The arrested drug peddler is Jaynul Abedin, 35, a resident of Purba Bichan Dai Village under the upazila.
   
Acting on a tip-off, the elite force conducted a drive in Bhatmari Bazar area of the upazila, and arrested Jaynul. At that time, 410 bottles of phensedyl were seized from his possession, said Deputy Director (Media Wing) of RAB-13 Mahmud Bashir Ahmed.

There are several cases under the Narcotics Control Act pending against Jaynul Abedin with various PSs, the RAB official added.

DASHMINA, PATUAKHALI: Police arrested two drug dealers along with two kilograms of hemp from Dashmina Upazila in the district recently.

The arrested are: Shamim Fakir, 26, son of Shahidul Fakir of Ward No. 8 Charghuni Village under Ronogopaldi Union in Dashmina Upazila of Patuakhali; and Al-Amin Shikder, 32, son of Akkas Shikder of Ward No. 5 Syedkathi Village under Binoykathi Union in Sadar Upazila of Jhalakati. Both of them live in Hatem Ali College Chowmatha area in Barishal City.

Police sources said on information, a team of the law enforcers conducted a drive in Ward No. 9 Machhuakhali area on the Dashmina-Patuakhali highway under Betagi Sankipur Union of the upazila, and detained the duo along with the hemp.

After filing of a case under the Narcotics Control Act with Dashmina PS, the arrested persons were produced before the court.
