Two leaders of Dhaka University unit of Bangladesh Chhatra League (BCL) have been arrested for taking Tk 1.75 lakh from a trader beating him mercilessly.
They were arrested by Shahbagh police on Thursday night. The court granted them bail on Friday.
The two BCL leaders were DU BCL vice-president and Applied Chemistry and Chemical Engineering Department's student Nafis Fuad. He is known as the follower of DU BCL president Mazharul Kabir Shoyon. The other is DU Fazlul Huq Hall BCL's environment secretary and Nuclear Engineering Department's student Mahidur Rahman Badhon. Badhon is known as a follower of DU BCL general secretary Tanvir Hasan Saikat.
The other accused in the case are Nishan, Rasel Mia and Rafi. Details of their identities were not mentioned. On the other hand, these two BCL leaders were arrested as unidentified accused.
The case statement says that a trader named Md Rubel was called in Shahbagh by Nishan. When Rubel reached there, he was forcibly taken to the Dhaka University's central playground by all the accused. Then they beat him indiscriminately with bamboo sticks. Then the accused forced him to transfer Tk 50,000 from the City Bank app to their bKash account. Then they transferred Tk 50,000 from Rubel's Nagad account.
Besides, they transferred Tk 20,000 from his Nagad account, then Tk 50,000 from Janata Bank's booth at TSC through his ATM cardand Tk 5,000 from his money bag.
Contacted, Shahbagh Police Station's officer-in-charge (OC) Mostafizur Rahman said the incident had originated over the dues from trader Rubel. Then two were arrested after a case was filed. They were sent to the court.
It is learnt that the case was settled at Shahbagh Police Station.
